A linked region is a range of cells where data from fusion_place is fetched and pasted. Data from each cell in the linked region can also be reflected back to the ledger in fusion_place.

By specifying various conditions for each linked region, users can fetch data from fusion_place to an Excel sheet and reflect it back from the sheet to the ledger in fusion_place as they desire.

A linked region is a rectangular area on the sheet. Multiple linked regions can be established on a single sheet. In the diagram above, there are two linked regions (E15:E19 and G15:H19). The first linked region (E15:E19) displays account names, and the second linked region (G15:H19) shows ledger cell values (see "Types of Linked Regions" for more details).

Outside the linked regions, key designated cells, key designated columns, and key designated rows are established. Each of these corresponds to a specific dimension. In the diagram above, they are set as follows (dimension names in parentheses—^[1]):

Each cell in a linked region is associated with the dimension members specified in the key designated cells, key designated columns, and key designated rows.

For example, in the diagram above, the cell G15 in the linked region is associated with the following dimension members (displayed in the format "Dimension Name=Member Label"). These members serve as keys when accessing data in fusion_place.

Note that key designated columns specify row keys and key designated rows specify column keys. In the example from the diagram, Column B specifies Accounts as the row keys for each row in the linked region. For example, the row key for Row 16 is Account PL1200.

In the diagram, the key designated columns are contiguous (Columns B and C). However, this is not mandatory. Unrelated columns can be placed between multiple key designated columns, or some key designated columns can be placed to the right of the linked region. The same applies to key designated rows.

How dimensions are assigned to key designated columns and key designated rows is up to the user. In the diagram, Accounts (#ACCOUNT) and Changes (#CHANGE) are assigned to key designated columns, and Views (#VIEW) is assigned to key designated rows, while other dimensions are assigned to key designated cells. For instance, Scenario could also be assigned to key designated rows. In extreme cases, all dimensions could be assigned to key designated rows, with no key designated columns (or vice versa).

Key designated columns can include blank rows (see Row 18 in the diagram). When there is a blank row, each cell in that row in the linked region is excluded from data fetching and reflection processes. The same applies if there are blank columns in key designated rows.

Key designated columns and rows can be shared among multiple linked regions. In the example from the diagram (though not visible just by looking), the Accounts column (Column B) is used commonly between the linked regions E15:E19 and G15:H19.
