Register/Change Sheet Password

This manual is in pilot operation.

When distributing Excel books (including sheets configured for [Excel-Link]) to users, you may want to prevent them from modifying layouts or settings.

In such cases, [Excel-Link] sheets can be protected with a password, just like regular sheets. However, it is also necessary to register the password as an "Excel-Link Sheet Password" to temporarily disable protection during data retrieval/reflection.

The Excel-Link Sheet Password is separate from the fusion_place login password. While login passwords are registered per user account, Excel-Link Sheet Passwords can be assigned per sheet, regardless of the user.

In Excel sheet protection, "Permissions for all users of this sheet" can be specified.
When data is retrieved or reflected, these permissions are generally maintained, except that "Edit objects" and "Edit scenarios" will be deselected (a limitation due to Excel VBA).

Before distributing a protected sheet, register an Excel-Link Sheet Password. If the sheet is already protected, temporarily disable protection before registering the sheet password (once registration is complete, the sheet will be protected with the new password).

Follow these steps to register, change, or clear an Excel-Link Sheet Password. (Ensure that [Excel-Link] is registered as an add-in beforehand):

  1. In Excel, select the sheet for which you want to set the sheet password.

  2. From the menu, select fusions  Sheet Password.

(If a sheet password is already set, the "Enter Excel-Link Sheet Password" dialog will appear. Enter the current password and click the OK button.)

The "Change Excel-Link Sheet Password" dialog will appear.

  3. Enter the new password in the "New Password" and "Confirm Password" fields, and click the Apply button. (To clear the password, leave the fields blank and click the Apply button.)

The password will be registered or changed.

Remove Sheet Protection

When an Excel-Link Sheet Password is set, the sheet will be protected using that password. To modify the layout or settings of the sheet, follow the usual Excel procedures to remove sheet protection. [1] tab, select [Unprotect Sheet] under [Changes].]

Reapply Sheet Protection

After removing sheet protection as described above, you can reapply it by simply selecting fusions  Protect Sheet from the menu. The sheet will be protected using the registered Excel-Link Sheet Password.

Alternatively, you can follow the usual Excel procedures to protect the sheet. In this case, click [Protect Sheet] in the [Review] tab.

Do not protect the sheet with a password different from the Excel-Link Sheet Password. This will cause errors in subsequent processing. Specifically, during data retrieval or reflection, [Excel-Link] attempts to temporarily disable sheet protection using the Excel-Link Sheet Password, but this will fail, and an error message will be displayed. Similarly, if you attempt to change the Excel-Link Sheet Password from the fusions menu, you will encounter an error message because the old password cannot disable sheet protection.
In such cases, remove sheet protection, reapply it with the correct password, and try again.
